Canadian Artist Karin Lynn Cumming is a tenacious mark maker. Her work is found in exhibits and private collections in Canada and the USA. Her work is also selected by interior designers for staging residences across the Greater Toronto Area.
Karin Lynn’s process is intuitive and regenerative. Often the starting point is unknown, and the process is a cycle of create, destroy, and rebuild. The reworking of layers is like the struggle to reach a destination. When the final painting emerges, it is much like a birth. The painting, with all the struggle of its creation, is complete.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I make art because I have to. I struggle, but am tenacious, applying and reworking the layers of paint, and making marks, knowing that the painting will emerge and that I will know when it is complete. Much like people, my paintings have many layers. Some you see, many you don’t; but they are all important. My paintings have words and meaning woven into the layers, and while the process is frenetic and unpredictable, each finished work has balance, and an exuberance of light and colour.
